Issue #1: Sentry vs Superman

Photobucket

In our first episode of Breaking the Panels, we have the iconic powerhouses of each respectable universe to kick off this series: Sentry vs Superman! In Marvel's corner, we have the Sentry, the most powerful superhero in Marvel history, while in DC's corner, we have Superman, the most powerful superhero in DC history. So to set us off here, let us briefly delve into each character's bio to set the stage.
  MARVEL

Sentry
Real Name:
Robert Reynolds
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 194 lbs.
Powers: Invulnerable, Super Strength, Speed, Agility and Endurance;Flight; Energy Projection; Matter Manipulation; Telepathy; Teleportation; Healing Others; Resurrection
Other Known Aliases: Void
First Appearance: Sentry #1

Robert Reynolds is one messed up guy, to say the least. Sentry is without a doubt the most powerful hero within Marvel's universe. His powers have been tested and tested with no limits. He inspired many of Marvel's heroes and can even cause the HULK to calm down, no easy task. He is completely invulnerable with no weakness. Has flew to the sun in just MINUTES. No being in the universe can take him down (and even if they somehow manage to... boom, he just resurrects himself because... umm.. yea... he can do that.) Apparently, his hobbies include ripping people apart.

And Loki, too...

And here... Yea.... See that big red mess there? That USED to be Ares, the GOD of WAR
And those instances are just a FRACTION of his true potential. Yet all that power... it comes at a price. And that price would be Void, the flip side of the Sentry... Oh yea... Did we forget to mention Bob was a junkie schizo before becoming Sentry? The only reason he got his powers in the first place was because he was chasing and drank a formula trying to get high. But not enough time to cover THAT whole story, which I'm sure most of you know. Others can look it up... if they haven't already clicked the link above to his bio.

     DC

Superman
Real Name: Kal-El
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 223 lbs
Powers: Invulnerable, Super Strength, Speed, Agility and Stamina; Flight; Heat Vision; X-ray Vision; Super Breath; Freezing Breath
Other Known Aliases: Clark Kent
First Appearance: Action Comics #1

Okay... Seriously. Superman. If you don't know who Superman is, then you are probably a shut in that has never left the house. Which means, you probably don't have a computer...Which means, you don't know what a comic book is. Which also means, you don't know about this website. Anyways.... for the rest of the 99.8% The Man of Steel needs no intro. Kal-El is the last son of the dying planet Krypton sent to Earth by his father Jor-El. The baby landed in the rural community of Smallville, Kansas and was raised by his Earthly parents, Jonathan and Martha Kent. Going by the name of Clark Kent, the older he got... the more his powers started to develop. Flight. Invulnerability. Speed. Even heat vision and freezing breath. If that's not enough, unless you have lead underwear, he's probably seen your genitals.

Hmm... those AREN'T fake, Power Girl.... that's a... suprise... can't... stop... stari---OH GAH, THAT'S MY COUSIN!
Supes has fought many battles from Alien Overlords to Bald Men in Business Suits. He's been beaten and bested very few times (and quite frankly sometimes by humans with no super powers, which is kind of embarrassing). But nevertheless, he still brawls to no end. Even with his limits and weaknesses, he still manages to overpower and dwarf those who seek to challenge him. He stands up for the American way of truth and justice. He is Superman!

To say the least, this is going to be the longest battle between super powered beings that has ever, and will ever occur. Both heroes would probably pound each other senseless the first hour or two on the ground with just their fists. This will get neither of them anywhere, so Superman would likely take this bout airborne. No sooner than he would, Sentry is already above him, due to the fact that Sentry is faster than him. The next phase of this battle would consist of Superman trying to use all his cards to wear him down. Heat Vision. No use. Freeze breath would slow him down by fractions of a second. Brute strength is out of the question as Sentry has the strength of 1000 suns. But to his advantage, Sentry has no upper hand in defense. Being closer to the sun, Superman's strength grows beyond measure.

Another long brawl is sure to ensue for countless more hours until finally Superman realizes the lost cause and tries to lure him away from the sun. At this point, Sentry would have the upper hand as Superman can not handle long beatdowns as much as Sentry. So as weak as Superman seems at this point, Sentry would let up for just a moment, and just as he's about to (what we would all assume) rip him in half like a sheet of notebook paper, Supes would grab Sentry and fly out of the Earth's atmosphere towards the sun. Once there, on the brink of wear down, he could attempt to gather his strength back.

If there's one thing you've got to give Superman credit for, it's his will and determination. But as for Sentry, he hasn't even broken a metaphorical sweat. The fight continues on for several hours, with still no sign of letting up. By all means, this fight could takes days, weeks or even months! Eventually what it would lead to is Superman unknowingly provoking Sentry, causing him to lose control and unleash his suppressed alter ego, Void. With Void left unchecked, the power he wields is greater than Sentry plus no remorse. No moral code, the Void unleashes into Superman. Without restraint of Void, there's nothing Supes can do. No amount of physical tolerance or super strength can withstand this overly powerful being. The pounding that would take place would put Clark into another "Kryptonian Sleep"

 THE WINNER: SENTRY
Photobucket

The above interpretation is just one out of dozens of scenarios. But i fear they all would eventually end close to the same way. Even if Void had not been released, Superman could do nothing to wear down Sentry. Even in a full on detailed storyline to explore the chance of a second opinion, there's the slightest possibility that Sentry would give in due to moral obligation and revert into his Robert Reynolds form, leaving him vulnerable to be defeated. However, he would resurrect himself and be even more susceptible to unleashing Void once again. Superman also has too many weaknesses to exploit. Shortest Case Scenario: If Sentry wanted to, he could just drag him to the nearest red sun in less than an hour and rip him in half, like he loves to do so much.
In the end: Sentry would defeat Superman.

Tune in next week as we pit together DC's and Marvel's Knighted Guardians: the Dark Knight and the Man Without Fear!!
